Prostatitis
Prostatitis refers to inflammation of the prostate. Unlike many other prostate conditions, prostatitis often affects younger men as well. Causes include bacterial infections, urological procedures, or narrowing of the urethra. Prostatitis can occur acutely or develop into a chronic condition. Patients experience pain during urination, during or before ejaculation, increased urinary urgency, and at the same time a weakened urine stream. Fever, cramps in the lower abdomen, and chills are also possible signs of an inflamed prostate. Treatment is conservative, with medications or antibiotics (in the case of a bacterial infection). While the symptoms of acute prostatitis can usually be alleviated relatively quickly, the treatment of chronic prostatitis is much more complex.
